Principal's Message

Dear Granada Families and Community,

My name is Samuel Peña and I am honored and excited to serve as the new principal of Granada Middle School. Granada has a rich history of academic excellence and my goal is to add to the ongoing success of the Granada community.

This year will be my 16th year in education. I began my career in El Paso, Texas where I taught high school math and special education for six years. In 2012, I moved to Los Angeles where I taught middle school math, special education, and advisory. I later began my administration journey at Paramount High School where I served as dean of students. Most recently, I served the Hacienda La Puente USD community as a high school assistant principal for the past five years.

On a personal note, my wife and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in September. We have two kids that are amazing but have given me some white hair. My oldest, Marissa just completed kindergarten and will be starting first grade in the fall and my two-year-old Noah, has the privilege of playing at home all day while he eagerly waits for his big sister to come home from school. Family is everything and I am now looking forward to being part of the Granada family.

Granada has been recognized for its outstanding programs as a California Gold Ribbon School and California Distinguished School. This is a testament to the outstanding students, teachers, and staff members that make up the Granada family. I am quickly learning that Granada strives for EXCELLENCE in all areas, whether in academics, athletics, or the arts.

As you know, middle school is such an important and critical time period for students’ social-emotional development. Having a great middle school experience can set students up for success. I firmly believe that all students need to be valued, accepted, given clear boundaries, and most of all loved. This can only happen through strong and positive relationships.

Our mission at Granada is to create a safe and nurturing environment that prepares students for the rigors of high school, college, and beyond. Our curriculum and school environment is geared towards supporting our district’s vision of “Opening the Door to Every Child’s Future.” We want to encourage and guide our students to become lifelong learners that are literate, skilled, responsible, and have integrity and grit.

I look forward to meeting you and collaborating with you during this new school year. I know this is going to be a great year of growth and celebrations. I hope you enjoy your summer and have opportunities to make some awesome memories with your family and friends.

See you in August!

Samuel Peña, Ed.D.
